Sorbmeter Kelvin 1042
by Costech Microanalytical
The sorbtometer is used to measure the properties of powder materials in various industries

One of the main indicators of the properties of a powder substance is the specific surface area, which characterizes the ability of this substance to adsorb a certain gas (vapor) under certain conditions.
The KELVIN 1042 sorbtometer is designed to measure the volume of gas (N2) adsorbed on the surface of the material at the temperature of liquid nitrogen (LN2). The specific surface area of the material and the size distribution of pores are calculated from the adsorbed gas volume. What you need to know in the chemical industry, powder metallurgy, radio-electronics, construction, food and other industries, as well as in research laboratories and quality control laboratories.
The sorbtometer measures the volume of gas adsorbed at liquid nitrogen temperature using a continuous flow method. For this purpose, the programmable system automatically prepares the gas mixture (adsorptive in the carrier gas). Up to six samples can be measured in a single automatic cycle. The sample tubes are automatically moved by a robotic carousel from the degassing position to the measuring position. The thermoconductivity detector (TCD) measures the volume of adsorbed gas and monitors the degassing process.
Based on the adsorbed volume of gas, the following is calculated:
- Single point surface area (BET method)
- Multipoint specific surface area (BET method)
- Specific surface area according to the Langmuir method;
- Adsorption/Desorption Isotherms
- Pore size distribution (BJH method);
- Volume of micropores.
